Team UOB took part in Scally Rally 2011 (September 16-19) to raise funds for Urban Outreach. Rob from the RUNA project, along with his son Ben, drove a 13 year old VW Polo that cost only £100 all the way to Italy (and back) via several high passes in the Swiss Alps and the Dolomite mountains, and Venice, ending on the beach in Rimini.
Completing the rally with just basic resources in an old car through such demanding terrain was a massive challenge. By completing this adventure they were able to relate more to the people on the fringe of society who may have to cope with the daily challenge of finding somewhere to sleep, wondering when, how and where they will next eat and feeling vulnerable in an unfamiliar environment. All the proceeds raised will be used by Urban Outreach to help the most vulnerable people in Bolton.

19 September: Finally made it down the mountain safely after some serious problems with gearbox not working properly, wheel bearings going, satnav not working and no crash barrier - and it was snowing too! |
